1 Galleria “Il Pozzo”
images
We weren't able to go to Italy this summer because of Covid but Cortona is the first place we will go when travel is back on and Il Pozzo is the first place we'll visit in Cortona. We've re done a few rooms at home so will definitely need some new art work from Ivan!

You go down a ladder and find yourself immersed in a fairytale atmosphere, among foxes, cats, witches and lush vegetation. The works represent excellent interpretations of the cult places of Cortona declined in the form of paintings, cushions, cups, magnets, etc. all seasoned with the extreme courtesy of the owner and artist.

The shop is run by an absolutely wonderful wife of the sculptor and artist who is responsible for most of the work. The wife is from Venice and designs and makes beautiful Merano venetian Murano glass jewelry. I needed something special for my mother and she very kindly assisted me in my search. I actually went there two days in a row. The first day I bought a beautiful and well priced watercolor painting done by her husband and since I needed some Jewelry for my mother, i went straight back to this shop for the Venetian Murano glass jewelry I was looking for. Absolutely wonderful experience! Beautiful shop. It is a few feet off the Main Street of the piazza (go left after the church) and is a darling shop. Highly recommended!
4 Fortress of Girifalco

We just visited the restaurant - but this is absolutely worth the walk. When you come from the city center by foot, it’s a lot of stairs, but the view is amazing. Prices are absolutely cheap and the staff is super nice!
5 Diocesan Museum

Beautiful museum in the Duomo of Cortona. It has many Etruscan artefacts and is very peaceful. Highly recommended.
7 Santa Maria delle Grazie al Calcinaio

images
This church has the best view of 360 degree surroundings. It has been renovated recently and read somewhere it has the best renaissance architectural space well worth to look into.

14 Galleria graffiti cielo aperto (street art)

These are the installations we want in a city! Small spaces, which with simplicity, allow you to wander even for a moment with your thoughts. Always several small street art installations. I advise you to slow down when you pass by car to observe them. Better still to see them for a walk.
16 Clelia Tondini - Cortona Pottery Studio

images
Clelia showed me around her store, shared the stories of her art. I picked three pieces I loved but I live in the USA! Not to worry, she said. For a reasonable fee, she shipped them and they arrived in Florida in just four days. When they arrived, it brightened my day. The toughest part was opening the packaging because it was wrapped in such a way to make certain it was safe. I couldn’t wait to get them open!
Now I have three beautiful vases and a few small pieces to remind me of my visit to Cortona.

Cortona On The Move was born in 2011 when Antonio Carloni, founder and director of the festival, together with two friends decided to organize something dedicated to photography: since the first edition it has been a real success by attracting international, professional and amateur photographers to Cortona. who have found in the historic center of the town a meeting place where they can propose their works, exchange opinions and share their passion for photography.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful virtual wine tasting with sommelier Francesco, organized by our daughter as a birthday gift for my wife. Our daughter communicated with Federica, who curated a selection of wines we were able to purchase through our account at Total Wine. We were provided with a detailed booklet to prepare for the wine tasting and take notes throughout. The virtual tasting was accomplished through a Google platform, which was reliable. On the other end, Francesco methodically walked us through each selection of wine, taking his time of explain the characteristics of each region, and then patiently guided us through tasting of each selection. We set aside 1 1/2 hours for this experience, but time flew by and we almost 3 hours later, we were still engaged in this delightful experience. I recommend this virtual experience for anyone seeking to learn more about Italian wines from a knowleadgable and authentic sommelier based in Tuscany (Cortona). You will not regret it!
I do my best to keep this list very up to date. It was last edited in March 2025. If you know of a street art that should be on the list, let me know. Click here to contact me. Thanks!
