Stunning art work. Breathtaking place full of life and culture
SCAM alert....sadly impossible to experience this place properly without being heavily ‘invited’ to buy drinks from menus created for tourists at double the price of even the bars in Havana Vieja. And if you’ve ordered without checking the prices then watch out, you would not get out of the bar without threat of violence if you challenge their scam.
It is extremely hustled even for Havana and doesn’t reflect well on Salvador the artist who was swanning around with his bluetooth headset in like a Cuban Fagin fully aware the place was set up to extract money from the tourists.
But you know, slavery kind of puts this into context, a little tourist tax is nothing in comparison.
SCAM ALERT. There are people in the surroundings that will be pushy to walk you there and then they will pretty much "invite" you to order some massively overpriced drinks. And to buy CD's. And to buy cigars. I'm talking of Victor, el "pediatra" (of course friend of the barman). Tourist might be naive but we aren't stupid. Even worst, we got super sick the same day and we suspect it was because of the ice cubes in the drinks.
Una lastima, la obra del artista es bonita y no se merece ser dañada por unos cuantos sinvergüenzas.
African traditional worship originating from Nigeria and other parts of west Africa. The call them the afro Caribbean religions. I was amazed at how they are so proud of it as they mentioned the names of the various gods they worship. These worshippers are not only blacks. They have worshippers from the Spanish and mixed races and perhaps caucasians too.
We saw this as part of a tour, and appreciated the art. However, the push for us to buy a CD (we don't even own anything that can play a CD!) and the child who followed us out repeatedly asking for money was a bit much. Would like to come back to see the dancing.
