Stunning historical pharmacy, worth a visit if you're around!
Just walked past on a back street. Free entry as still a pharmacy. Beautiful building inside.
Oh, the glory that was once Habana! 60 years ago the city must have been a sparkling jewel, but has fallen into a really sad state of decrepitude. An exception is this lovely little nugget, lovingly restored and maintained, with relics of old fashioned pharmacy and medicine. The museum is small, and 20-30 minutes there allows you to see all of the exhibits. A very nice lady asked me for a voluntary donation, and I gladly contributed.
I'm giving this 5 stars because it is a beautiful place with an unmatched collection of ceramic pharmacy vessels...and surprisingly, it is an active pharmacy as they had a little box that they were selling basics like ibuprofen out of (love the quirkiness of Cuba!). However, if you are expecting a real museum with lots of information, this is not it...it could be, but sadly it is just a well-preserved store. Perhaps one day when more investment floods into Cuba, they will do more with this place, but then, that would not be the real Cuba, would it? Do stop, but don't expect to be informed or entertained (if ever in New Orleans, definitely go to their Pharmacy museum as it is amazing).
It was interesting to visit this place, it's free entry and with history
