Reviews from visitors:
Came here without reading any reviews beforehand and was very shocked by the depictions of atrocities committed by the Americans against the Vietnamese. Totally not what I was expecting having studied history written mainly by western historians. While the war crimes of the communists are well known by those who are informed of international history and current affairs, this museum presents the other side of the story that the western media will not. Those who cry foul and bias are probably just in denial because it hit too close to home. The Americans have always viewed themselves as benevolent liberators when it comes to spreading "freedom" in other war-torn regions. Bringing up other instances of war crime by non-Americans does not invalidate American war crime itself. How can anyone simply brush off pictorial evidence by third party photographers from all over the world and statistics and figures? In the end it is always the civilians who suffer the most. This is a must visit for anyone who's interested in an alternate version of history portrayed by the Vietnamese, as anti-American as it may be.
Something that people should visit even if quite hard viewing in places (especially the agent orange room). Very thought provoking.
Very well done and certainly worth a trip when visiting Ho Chi Minh City. Some of the displays are very harrowing and hard to look at. Difficult to come away without feeling emotional about what went on and admiring the resilience of the Vietnamese people.
I have given it 4 out of 5 because I would have liked to see some acknowledgement of the cruelty inflicted by the Vietnamese on the captured American troops. Certainly there is no doubt of the barbaric nature of the American strategy, in particular the use of napalm and agent orange and the toll this is taking even now, decades later in terms of birth defects. The lack of reference to the Vietnamese acts leaves a gap – a strong people should be able to admit to this.
An excellent place for lovers of military history. All kinds of military memorabilia are displayed, from tanks via helicopters to fighter jets.
A lot of boy toys. One can spend half day in this museum.
This museum is a sobering reminder of how horrible war can be on civilians.
It also shows how Agent Orange is still causing many deformities in children today.
I found it to be a very good place to learn what really happened here.
A place to reflect.
