Always a great time at the Frist. So thankful to have a quality art museum in Nashville. We were just there for the Picasso exhibit. This is one of the few stops in the United States for this exhibit. It was very well done.
Phenomenal experience! Went during the Picasso Figures exhibit and the staff were incredibly accommodating and attentive. The exhibit itself was spacious and well laid out, and the history is the building itself is fascinating. Oddly enough I couldn't get over how the floor is made of pieces of 2x4s stacked together upright! So incredibly cool!
The building has been remodeled from its previous life as the Post Office and its Art Deco beauty still shines. The exhibits change regularly and I'll be returning soon. The Art of the American West in the upstairs gallery was stunning!
This is a very small museum but the quality of the exhibits are great. I enjoy the member times, which reduces the number of people in the galleries. I also really appreciate the diversity of all the exhibits.
We went to the Picasso exhibit and there was another exhibit upstairs about the Early Western United States. It is a quiet atmosphere where everybody is trying to maintain social distancing as much as possible. There are no barriers between some of the artwork and the observers, so if you have unruly children, I would recommend not bringing them. Each painting, sculpture, etc has a little info card next to it. Of course nobody has time to read them all, but by the time you get through each exhibit, you have learned enough to make the whole thing worthwhile. I particularly liked reading the brochure about the buildings history. The is a gift shop but the line was so long to get in we decided to pass. There is also a children interactive exhibit but I think you have to purchase tickets in advance to get in, but it might be worth investigating online. Overall an enjoyable experience.
