Reviews from visitors:
I wholeheartedly recommend the Whitney to any art - most specifically, modern art - lover.
I was able to explore a few museums in NY due to my corporate discounts and this place was by far my favorite.
The building itself is beyond gorgeous. I am a sucker for architecture and this place is just stunning.
We came here on a Friday night at around 4:30. There is coat check down the stairs but we opted just to carry our things around with us as the line was forever long.
We started at the very top and worked our way down. There are various exhibits, my favorite was the immersion exhibits.
Art is interpretive, art is weird, art is crazy. That's what makes it so enjoyable.
Each floor highlights a different style of art or artist but the collections have seem to have a sense of cohesiveness with each other as well.
The place is clean, bright, and the exhibits laid out beautifully.
Definitely come here and check it out.
The museum had done a good job of adapting to COVID. Ruined entry, mask requirements, etc. People were a tad close for my comfort though, not paying strict attention to the 6ft requirement.
That aside, the exhibits were good. The Mexican American exhibit was really different, and extremely well curated. Excellent art, expounding on a curatorial history lesson, without beating you over the head with it.
Prior visit: Wish I had had more time for the Warhol exhibit.
I would not be a member if it were not awesome. If you are a frequent visitor it makes sense to sign up. Make your trip memorable! Plan to have a bite to eat on an observation deck when you visit, sensational view!
They've done a great job of making this a safe place to go during Covid. Temp checks at the door. Limited attendance. Staff is quite engaged in preventing any lack of social distancing. The elevators are run "Sabbath style," stopping on every floor. Each elevator holds only four people in designated white spots in the corners, and one of them is the elevator operator. The operator will enforce those spots diligently. Even the gift shop is strictly monitored, with lines and a staff member enforcing them, with the fridge for their seltzer locked. And of course, the art is spectacular.
6 floors and couldn't make it to the last too. Make sure you go in early and give yourself time. Loved the Mexican folk art floor. Surprised that in America they would be celebrating and dedicating a floor to the talented Mexican citizens.
