Reviews from visitors:
It was a quick but interesting visit, and the batik designs were initially from Indonesia. You can see the entire production process in the workshop downstairs, before heading to the showroom. The owner is there, describing himself as an internationally recognized designer.
The items are pretty nice, and the prices are also quite high. The three ladies in the group bought three skirts and a shirt.
I loved the guy at the entrance claiming to be head designer lol
The visit was interesting (we saw few steps of the making process). Does look like a lot of work to make though. We didn't buy anything as I can't trust prices in places like this..
Batik is an art of dyeing cloths of innumerable designs and in different colors. The art work is very difficult, pretty precise and laborious. First an art design is selected and the artist patiently draw it on a cloth and apply liquid paraffin on the art and then dip in the colour dye drum and dry it. The process is repeated again and again for different colours.
The worst experience in Sri Lanka. We went shopping and stopped at this place for batik shopping. The owner is old and full of himself and too proud of his art. He made a scene when we asked for discount of 5 Euros. He offended us and shouted at us because we simply asked for a discount. Such an unpleasant experience. We left immediately. Avoid. Expensive and tourist trap!!!
Good place to visit and buy quality Bathiks
