Reviews from visitors:
Agia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa is recognized, as the oldest Christian church in this part of Europe. It’s one of the important places for the Christian community. Saint Paul taught Christianity in Cyprus. In connection to evangelical activity, St Paul was sentenced to flogging. He received 13 strokes with a whip. On archaeological site, you will see St Paul's Pillar, which survived ages of history. It’s an archeorogical site worth to see. I visited in May 2015.
Fantastic piece of religious history with St Paul
Beautiful church with numerous icons. Only open for Mass & other services. Daily Mass in English. A beautiful prayerful place
Made the effort to attend Sunday mass at 10 How disappointing. Service during covid times too long +( more than an hour) . Oppressive heat and long sermon that again should have been shorter during these times. I left after
58 min feeling scared for my health . The parish lay officials are fantastic but let down by overzealous clergy and choir.
This is one of Cyprus’ most significant pilgrimage sites. Back in 45 AD it wasn’t a great idea to try to spread Christianity to places that didn’t want it – if you were interested in self-preservation.
Paul the Apostle came to Paphos to convert the ruler from Paganism, and for his efforts got 39 lashes. In the grounds of Panagia Chrysopolitissa, a handsome Orthodox/Anglican church on the site of an ancient basicila, you’ll find the pillar to which the saint was tied for his punishment.
The pillar has been eroded down the years but is still standing amid two millennia of ruins that include some stunning mosaics.
