Reviews from visitors:
We drove over from Tampa to visit one of the best fine arts museum in the country. Many pieces of works by the old masters are on display here plus other pieces of art by soon to be famous artists from around the world. Whether you live here or are just visiting this is a must see.
This was my first and last visit to the museum of fine arts museum's cafe. I was invited by close friends to share mother's day brunch with them. Our reservations were at 1pm and I was seated by 1258. It took 20 minutes just for our waitress to take our order. Ten minutes later she came to inform me that the crab cakes I ordered were sold out. So I ordered an alternative. Ten minutes after that a couple sitting next to me ordered crab cakes (the same ones that were sold out) and received their meal even before ours came out. It took a total of 1 hour and ten minutes to recieve our food. I counted 5 tables that arrived after ours and received their food before us. When we complained we did get a discount and the waitress brought our bill out 5 minutes after our food arrived. I have never received a bill before finishing eating and the others in my party actually wanted to try the dessert. Needless to say, by then my appetite was gone and the salmon I ordered was bland. Will not return..
This museum is small, but has a nice collection of different mediums, regions, and periods. I think the Early American and 1600s Dutch galleries are the most impressive. You can tell it was designed to appeal to visitors - I really liked how the placards for each of the objects displayed is both informative and interesting. Unlike some other museums I've visited, you don't have to be any kind of "expert" to understand the explanations and enjoy the collections, but there's enough detail to keep the experts happy as well. I don't think this would be the best museum for small children, as you need to be able to read to appreciate most of the displays.
There is so much to enjoy at this museum. They have a diverse collection spanning the ages from Ancient Greece to Hindu art, Dutch Maters to Impressionists, sculpture and more. The museum is perfect for all its great works. There is a fine touch of music that is chosen to pipe in the the galleries that highlights the experience. Finally very good Covid precautions so you feel safe.
Smaller than I thought. Basic theme is a sampling of art over 5000 years of human history. Very pleasant. I especially liked the courtyard. The guest exhibit of Navajo textiles was exciting. Watch for guest exhibits.
