Reviews from visitors:
This museum complex in Savannah is formed out of three individual buildings. The Telfair Academy building was the first public art museum opened in the southern United States. Its collection is on display in two nineteenth century rooms, and includes paintings and decorative arts.
The Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters contains family furnishings from the period in addition to an intact slave quarters. Finally, the Jepson Center is a contemporary structure hosting modern artworks.
These include an excellent collection of southern American works, African-American art, and two galleries reserved for temporary exhibitions.
Very nice museum with plenty of natural light. The exhibits were well curated and there was a bit of everything for everyone. One was a photography exhibit, there was a oil paintings exhibit, a paper crafts exhibit, and a new technology with earth as the concept exhibit (that one was very interesting) along with indoor and outdoor sculptures. The price is great considering one ticket gets you access to 3 venues. Definitely recommend taking advantage of that
Great collections over 3 buildings. See them all. The Telfar building itself us an experience.
The new building has the easiest parking and is most wheelchair accessible. It also has the modern collections and children's sections.
There is a lovely Cafe for lunch.
This is an important visit in Savanah.
They have some very nice pieces. Definitely worth the time. Get the 3 for ticket and do both Telfair museums and the Owens- Williams house.
