Reviews from visitors:
A lil bit small but not bad quality collection
A rather small museum that deals in extremely specialized art. For commoners like me, it was too much to swallow. Also while they have a good English narration headset, it costs ¥550 more on top of the ¥1300 for entry. If you choose NOT to rent that headphone, well, their explanations are in Japanese only, their showcases don’t have English texts, just the large signs on the walls do. If you’re frustrated with your lack of knowledge of art like me, go ahead and buy that ¥2500 artbook with full descriptions about each piece.
I didn’t because I never read those but I am not educated in art that well; you may be better off if you took that book home.
Haha... when I visited one day in September 2019, they were displaying a collection of Mino(美濃) pottery. I think Mino is famous for Oda Nobunaga if nothing else. Anyway you can read a lot about the history and aesthetic value of them but I think you need a lot of knowledge beforehand for this museum to be much fun.
What I mean is that, the museum is too ‘specialized’ to be interesting to a layperson. I’ll go with the crowd and leave four stars though.
Suntory museum of art. Located in midtown Tokyo Roppongi. Medium sized art space but it has many Master pieces of modern Japanese art like ceramic ware and Ukiyo e painting. Very quiet and clean.
Definitely worth visiting, great exhibitions.
