Reviews from visitors:
Operated this gallery on behalf of the owner for 6 months. Andrew Bockner the owner of the Gallery. Despite sometimes coming off as a nice guy he is, at the end of the day, a scam artist.
Customers: Do NOT consign art here, andrew is in the habit of taking art and selling it without paying the owners of the artwork. He often jacks up the price of regular artworks 200%-300%, and will regularly frame junk and try to pass it off as quality in an attempt to make a few hundred or thousand quickly. Do not pay for any artwork (including leaving a deposit) for any work ( purchasing art, framing, etc ). Andrew often will take deposits and use funds to pay personal or unrelated expenses. Wait times will turn from 3 days to three months.
Artists: This gallery owner will harm your reputation, luckily for you by the time you read this the gallery should already be permanently closed, however if that isn't the case try to avoid doing business with this gallery. You will have your time money and beautiful time wasted. I spent time taking down negative reviews for Andrew bockner before i left his business however many still remain for you to reference.
Employees: there will be no clear job description, you will be left waiting for tasks with limited opportunity to take initiative. Andrew conducts business this way so later he can use the lack of productivity to deny you salary. There is no commission whatsoever despite claims otherwise, adjust your expectations if your desperate enough to take this job. He fails to pay out salaries or pay appropriate taxes for employees. He is already before the labour board of Ontario for several matters related to this topic.
Due to increasingly chaotic personal problems Andrew has let his business and customers become secondary in thought. He has been cut off from the financial support of his father, he has lost his furniture business, his now ex wife filed for divorce after infidelity and drug abuse, he owes in excess of $200,000 in back tax to the federal government , he is behind on his business’s rent($10,000+ Monthly). Currently when he is not in the hospital dealing with severe health issues brought upon by obesity, he is living in his gallery which has already been closed to public. Eventually when he runs out of money his inventory will be collateralized and it will be the actual owners and artists who lose out the most.
I went to struck looking to purchase a print I saw saw on their website. They did have the print however it was priced at more than three times the price of its online price. I explained that I had seen it priced for less, they didn't deny it was the wrong print. Had I known better I now know consumer are protected protected and they should have honored that price, and what they did was unethical.
Incredible contemporary art that beams from wall to wall! Such a unique and diverse collection. Fabulous place to host a special event.
Do NOT BUY from these people.
I ordered a print online, paid a couple of thousand dollars, they never sent it, or responded to me. Had to claim the money back.
Really killer variety of contemporary art. Pop in here when you have some time to wander around, and I can guarantee you’ll fall in love with something.
