Friendly, free art gallery with gorgeous Canadian pieces and friendly, professional staff.
I was lucky to stumble into this free gallery during my layover on August 10, 2019. The art on display was a gorgeous collection from various Canadian artists. I was told that the artwork is rotated regularly.
The employee there that day was SO KIND. She offered to answer any questions that I had and encouraged me to take photos of the pieces that I liked. She also seemed genuinely happy to let me browse the gallery (for hours)!! Before I left, she wished me luck on my journey and suggested that I revisit the next time I'm in Toronto. I will be back for sure!

It's a nice little gallery. They have an exhibition until April 2020 about Street Art and the organization that is behind. And it is free for this particular exhibition. I didn't know where those murals come from. It has been a discovery to know that there is a huge work from the City of Toronto and many artist not only to decorate the city but also to mentor artists at all stages of their development.

Did you know that Toronto has two street art creations by famed British artist Bansky? This is one. It's tucked away near the outside patio area of the Goose Island Beer Company and is protected by plexiglass. The other is located at One York Street.

Thank you Calvin, Allen and Wayne for providing such a beautiful space for my first art exhibit, Bottled Feelings.
From the moment I stepped into the Urban Gallery I knew it was going to be the place for my first and solo art exhibit, Bottled Feelings. The space is clean, spacious, warm, welcoming and the owners are more than hospitable.
I appreciated details such as a coat racks for my guests as my show was in the winter, and they prepared a guest book, a TOTAL oversight on my part but the messages/entries were so heartwarming and wouldn't exist without their thoughtfulness. The hanging system inside the gallery is great and allowed simple and straightforward installation, and this is where Allen provided his expertise in placement as well as lighting.
A key factor is that the gallery takes a flat fee for the month and takes ZERO commission from the artist, this means they don't sell your artwork, but as an artist, we really do have to sell ourselves.
The area can be a little daunting but this gallery is a gem and makes it shine. I have absolutely only good things to say and would exhibit there again if I have a second show! Thank you again!
