A hidden gem. If you’re lucky enough to be able to stop by, you’ll find hundreds of hand-carved masks, figures, and other pieces in a variety of unique styles—including classic Balinese, and fusion. Some are even intricately painted.
Very kind family, who are the main artists that craft these masks, tend this shop. While their policy is generally no photos (to protect their unique creations & style), they’ll gladly allow you to examine and even touch the pieces. Truly exquisite pieces by master carvers who’ve passed their artistic skills from generation to generation.
Prices are quite affordable, and a steal considering these are unique, handmade pieces. You may need to blow the dust off these pieces, and peer around high and low to make sure you see everything they have to offer. You won’t be disappointed!
P.S., the shopkeepers speak some English
The level of creativity and craftsmanship in the art in this place is a wonder to behold. Like stepping into a lost temple full of treasures and artifacts... incredible variety of carved and painted masks and other objects.. some old, some new.
Arie and Nom and the rest of the family should be much higher profile in the Balinese art scene. They don’t allow photography inside the gallery which limits what I can post here now... I’m working on them to change that policy.
I am an artist and have been to Bali many times, and this is my favorite place for carved wooden masks. Many other places have cheap copies, but here the masks are clearly created by master artists and innovators. If you want to buy a beautiful mask that will be a smart investment, this is the place. Prices are incredibly reasonable.
We have bought many masks here over the years, and just bought another stunning Hanuman mask made by I.B. Sutarja himself for a film that we are making. Such a treasure!
The best mask maker in Bali. You simply won't find designs like these anywhere else, or anywhere near the workmanship.
