Reviews from visitors:
There is a public park near by, it's a historical place for over 500 mountaineers memorial :) and they slept forever in peace
A very sobering and even sad place to remember those who Chose to Climb the Matterhorn and lost their young lives. Many were in their teens and early twenties when they met their end, before their lives had truly begun. The graves of the original group that was led by Edward Whymper are here as well. They summited successfully in 1865 but met disaster on the way down.
The cemetery is located behind St. Mauritius Catholic Church and is open 24/7. It is well maintained and a very interesting place to visit.
Well worth the visit. Just stand there close your eyes and imagine how they felt chasing their dreams doing the impossible
Thank you for the photo of Donald Williams’ gravestone, complete with his climbing axe. He was my best friend growing up together in New York City, and I was devastated when I heard of his death while climbing. I look forward to visiting him once again when I get to Zermatt.

In 2003 the graves of the unsuccessful alpinists were relocated to the area between the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Mauritius and Triftbach. This is where the unsuccessful alpinists around Zermatt rest. The inscriptions show: Men and women from all over the world died on the Matterhorn, on the Täschhorn, Weisshorn, Liskamm, in the Monte Rosa area or on the Obergabelhorn. Around 50 tombstones and their inscriptions can be discovered. - Touching. Most date from the 19th century, some also from the early 20th century
