Reviews from visitors:
So much heritage and history captured at the gallery about Kenya and its interaction with the outside world during the pre-colonial and colonial times are stored there. Also artwork from different artists. I would highly recommend anyone who loves and appreciates art to visit the gallery. They allow photography for better part of the gallery.
Being one of the country's oldest structures, it is conserved as rich heritage of the country located in Nairobi. Art and old tools kept to remind us long Journey's of advance in items.
Awesome green open fields with friendly staff. A wonderful lace to spend a sunny afternoon
When we hear about galleries or art museums we go back in time in Ashmolean museum which was the first ever and the oldest museum in the world and you can imagine the amount of history heritage that is diplayed in Ashmolean, i bet it goes back to B. C. There are other museums like the Louvre and the Smithsonian that came at the early centuries at different parts of the world. In Africa, Kenya precisely had the absence of organised documents and objects that would have had a place to be stored at the early centuries. The perspective of that era was bringing a different narrative based on the people .But today we can happily celebrate part of our heritage thanks to Nairobi Gallery .The building itself is an iconic and distinctive building which is also referred as point zero In the C.B.D.. Which has a history of it's own. It was built in 1913 and started as a civil service building which by then was referred to as hatches ,matches and dispatches .Then later in 1963 it became the first Nairobi Provincial Commissioner's Office for the natives .Today this building serves as a museum and a national monument. Some of them call it the National Gallery, But to most it's called The Joseph Murumbi's gallery because 3/4 of the items and objects were collected by Joseph Murumbi during his exile in the UK and each time he got foreign minister's assignments and duties in different countries in the world. Everything he had collected brought meaning and understanding during the slave era and colonialism in Africa. And when you visit this particular museum you get to learn more and be able to get a sense of community and places by celebrating and enjoying a collection heritage of our own.. For the history and art lovers this is a place to call home and have the best experience of how we transitioned economically in terms of currencies .... Then our fashion.....the type of jewelry we wear.... Our interior deco ...(for example the objects he (joseph murumbi) had for his office and living room) ...also the books for how the maumau fought and last but not least the materials they used in war during their war era. As much as somethings will remain in the past some materials most precisely on fashion the kikoi's ,vitenge's and jewelry are still used on our day to day lives... It's just that we modify them to fit the fashion sense of today... But basically nothing much has really changed meaning we are still portraying part of the heritage and this place just relives it day by day....
It's cool so much to enjoy and parking also available at 150ksh only in the middle of town
