Reminds me of a plaza from a European city.
One of the top 10 things to do and see in New Orleans. The beautiful park is well maintained, family friendly and a place you can rest on a bench under magnificent old trees while enjoying some quiet in an otherwise often noisy city. The park contains an equestrian statue of Andrew Jackson at its center. The park is surrounded on four sides by street vendors, artists, musicians, card readers, and assorted street performers. As my then 8 year old son said when I first visited with him in 1994... “I like New Orleans, it is such a (dramatic pause) happy place!”
This was a much more family friendly experience than the near by bourbon street. Festive with live music and a wide assortment of art. Each street had different artist on it all with their own unique style. It was easy to get to walk down canal st and then just follow the boardwalk. The jazz band their that day was incredible!
The first time I visited Jackson Square was a day ago. It was completely dead so I could take in the beauty of the location. Today however it was bustling with artists of all sorts. Live music etc. It is an experience I will never forget.
Was a beautiful spot to visit with a ton of amazing art, extremely talented street performers, excellent food, great views. Worth visiting daily if in town just to see if something new is there that wasn't there the day before. Have cash with you in small denomination to tip if its your thing.
