In 2019, we loved our experience at Ca'Macana in their private mask making studio. We had a family of three with two adults and one 10yo who loves art and creation. Our class was in a private room with two instructors. The instructors were patient with our mask making learning curve. Each of us got to select two mask shapes to paint and design. If I remember correctly, they had approximately 10 painting styles to select from. We each selected our two mask shapes and the painting style of our choice. Their education about the venetian masks was in depth and very educational! One main instructor assisted each of us of how to create a style that suits our liking. We felt comfortable with every task, some of us "me" had taken more time with my perfectionism, where my husband and child were several steps ahead :). The lead instructor was very patient with us 'me' finalizing our two mask per person project. We would totally do this again, but only when the pandemic is over and the temperature is cooler. We were there in July 2019, and it was hot, hot, hot! However, the studio did have light a/c cooling, compared with other shops that had none during the 100+ temps most of the day and into the evening.
Overall, what a memorable and spectacular experience!

I don’t recommend to attend course here. We think draw your own musk is very unique experience in venice, our family attend course together. teacher in workshop did not teach my son at beginning, just tell him that he can design his pattern and draw it. When my son met problem, I had to stop my work to help him. But teacher still draw her musk which is product to sell. Another problem I met is that I choose a little bit difficult design at first. But teacher didn’t tell me how long it will take. When I finished one third my work, teacher told me you have 20 minutes left,she will go home. I have to finish my musk in a rush. as a user experience activity, teacher has more experience and control the whole process is better way to run business.
I recommend enjoying a break from the bustling city and painting your own mask in their workshop. It takes about 60 to 90 mins and their skillful and friendly helpers will show you how to do it.
Gorgeous traditionally made masks. Went to a workshop during the carnivale period to learn about how they're made and the history of the masks. It was amazing to hear how it all started and to see how masks are made first-hand. Thank you for an all round incredible experience! I'll treasure my mask forever !
Awesome place with original and crazy “outside the box” masks. You can paint your own mask there, it was a super cool experience.
